ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Sophomore RHP Megan Betsa of the University of Michigan softball team was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week in recognition of her performance in the Wolverines' conference games against Michigan State and Indiana, the league office announced Monday (April 20). The weekly honor is the second in a row for Betsa and her fourth this season.
Betsa recorded three complete-game victories last week, including a five-inning no-hitter at Michigan State and two at home against Indiana. She posted a 0.82 ERA, allowing just two earned runs in 17 innings pitched, while striking out 32 batters, including 14 in the series finale against the Hoosiers.
She struck out six while allowing just two base runners on a walk and fielding error in the no-hitter at MSU. It was the first no-hitter for the Wolverines this season and 39th in program history. It was also the second of her career.
Betsa boasts nine double-digit strikeout games this season, including three of her last four, and owns a career-best 217 strikeouts this season -- 67 more than her 2014 total (150). She has only allowed three runs in the past 31 innings pitched.
The Wolverines will host a pair of in-state foes in midweek action this week, squaring off against Michigan State at 7 p.m. on Tuesday (April 21) and Central Michigan at 6 p.m. on Wednesday (April 22) at Alumni Field inside the Wilpon Complex.
