Michigan Head Coach Carol Hutchins
Opening statement ... "Well, I certainly liked our approach today. I'm considering starting all our games at 9 p.m. Our kids were pretty excited about playing at night. They waited all day and had a lot of great enthusiasm. We really came out attacking. That Georgia team is an attacking team, so I really like that we came out and swung first. But as I told them in the locker room, we haven't accomplished anything yet. We're not going to get too high. I thought we got a little unfocused later in the game and gave away some at-bats. We're going to need to come back and expect a tough day tomorrow, because that's a tough team. They need to take care of their details, whether it's cold tub or hot tub, and find a way to calm down and come back tomorrow ready to go."
On Megan Betsa's game from the circle ... "Megan gives us a chance to win when she walks on the field. That's a very good hitting team and a very aggressive team, and I thought she certainly did her part tonight. That's what we ask everybody to do -- just do their part, whatever their role is."
On taking advantage of Georgia errors ... "We were able to get bases, and that's the goal. That's all we wanted. The more bases you get, the better your chances to score. It definitely wasn't the cleanest game on either side."
U-M Sophomore RHP Megan Betsa
On her performance from the circle ... "Early on in the game I had a lot of adrenaline, so I was just trying to use that in a positive way instead of letting my nerves get the best of me. They're really aggressive hitters, so I tried to get ahead in the count. They were taking big swings, so I was just using my spin to my advantage."
On starting quickly in the first inning ... "I was just there to make a statement and get three outs as quick as I could, get my team back in the dugout so we could score runs."
U-M Sophomore Kelly Christner
On the Wolverines' four-run first inning ... "It's great to start with some runs in the first inning like that. It really kept our energy going for the rest of the game. We came out attacking every pitch, and we kept coming strong after that. It set a good tone."
