Junior catcher Lauren Connell will be blogging throughout the softball season to let Michigan fans in on what happens outside of the field of play. This week she takes "The Inside Pitch with LC" on the road to Oklahoma City for a daily blog at the Women's College World Series.
WCWS Day Five (Saturday, May 30)
While the goal at the Women's College World Series is to play as much softball as possible to avoid elimination, a day without games or practice was actually an achievement in our case. Our back-to-back wins against Alabama and UCLA earned us an off day until facing our next opponent on Sunday afternoon (May 31). After many of us slept well past breakfast following our late-night game the previous day, we were given the entire day off to rest and hang out with our families. We were set loose in Oklahoma City, and we found many fun things to do to keep ourselves busy.

Oklahoma City and Bricktown are home to many great restaurants and eateries. Most of us decided to go out to lunch with our families and ironically ended up at the exact same restaurant. We cannot stay away from each other! Lauren Sweet, Haylie Wagner and Kelsey Susalla went shopping at some local stores to kill time with their families. Abby Ramirez, Aidan Falk, Nikki Wald and Lindsay Montemarano all made trips with their families to the Oklahoma City National Memorial that honors those involved in the 1995 bombing of the Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City. Olivia Richvalsky and I made the 20-mile trip to Norman, Oklahoma, to explore the University of Oklahoma campus and check out their football and softball fields, of course!

Some members of the team, such as Sierra Romero and Lindsay Montemarano, could not stay away from ASA Hall of Fame Stadium, as they paid visits to the ASA Museum with their families. This was a fun moment for the Romero family, as both Sierra and her sister Sydney are pictured in the museum due to their selection on the USA National Team and the USA Junior National Team, respectively. The coaches could not stay away from the field either, as they went to OGE Energy Field to watch the games today.

Regardless of what people chose to do around Oklahoma City for the day, there was one common theme: we were all glued to the television watching softball for a majority of the day. After a much-needed day off, we feel rested and restless at the same time -- we are ready to trade in watching softball for playing softball. Regardless of who is in the opposing dugout tomorrow, we will be eager and hungry to play when game time comes at 2:30 p.m. Central Time. Watch us fight for our spot in the national championship game on ESPN tomorrow as we continue our goal to play as much softball as possible.
Go Blue!
