BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- University of Michigan rising senior Ali Thomason and rising junior Allison Skaggs have been named to All-America honorable mention list by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC), the organization announced Thursday (June 25). It is the second straight All-America nod for both Wolverine players.
Thomason, an attacker, established career bests and ranked among the Wolverines' leaders in most statistical categories, registering team highs with 58 goals and 51 steals while ranking second with 34 assists. She recorded eight hat tricks in 2015, including a six-goal effort in U-M's home win against Indiana (April 4). Thomason also recorded multiple steals in 13 games, including three with at least five.
Named to the CWPA All-Conference first team, Thomason was also selected to the CWPA All-Tournament team after posting nine goals and four assists over the three-game event, including a five-goal performance with the season finale against Hartwick. A neuroscience major, Thomason has also excelled out of the pool, earning multiple Academic All-Big Ten and U-M Athletic Academic Achievement honors over her career.
Skaggs, a center, recorded 32 goals, nine assists and 11 steals and led the Wolverine team with a career-best 55 drawn kickouts. She recorded four hat tricks, including a four-goal effort against No. 12 Loyola Marymount (March 21), and netted the overtime game-winner against No. 16 UC Davis (Feb. 8).
Skaggs was selected to the 2015 CWPA All-Conference second team, and as a freshman last year, earned both CWPA Western Division Rookie of the Year abd CWPA Championship Rookie of the Tournament honors. Like Thomason, she was named a 2014 ACWPC All-America honorable mention and is a multiple U-M Athletic Academic Achievement recipient.
Overall, 14 different Wolverines have earned 30 total All-America honors from the ACWPC.
The ACWPC selects first, second and third teams for its Division I All-America awards. For voting, players receive three points for a first team nomination, two points for a second team nomination and one point for a third team nomination. A player may earn honorable mention if she receives votes from two schools, excluding her own.
