
Eleven Wolverines Earn CWPA Scholar-Athlete Recognition

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The Collegiate Water Polo Association announced its selections for the 2015 Women's Scholar-Athlete team today (Wednesday, July 8), recognizing the classroom accomplishments of 11 members of the University of Michigan water polo team.
The individual honorees include freshman Caroline Anderson, sophomore Emily Browning, junior Julia Campbell, junior Danielle Johnson, sophomore Allison Larko, junior Kelly Martin, freshman Katherine Moore, sophomore Heidi Moreland, junior Presley Pender, junior Ali Thomason and senior Elizabeth Williams. Browning, Larko, Martin, Moreland, Pender, Thomason and Williams all earned repeat selection to the academic team.
Previously named the All-Academic Team, the program honors student-athletes who have achieved grade-point averages of 3.2 or better. Overall, 137 student-athletes earned selection to the team, which is broken into categories of Outstanding (3.71-4.00), Superior (3.41-3.70) and Excellent (3.20-3.40).
Thomason, a neuroscience major, and Johnson, a sport management major, both earned inclusion in the Outstanding category of the academic team. Thomason also garnered ACWPC All-America honorable mention and CWPA all-conference first team accolades after leading the Wolverines in scoring with 58 goals, 34 assists and 51 steals. She is a three-time CWPA Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Big Ten honoree. Johnson transferred to Michigan prior to the 2015 winter semester.
Williams, a movement science major, is the lone four-time CWPA Scholar-Athlete honoree among the Wolverine contingent.
The Wolverines also boasted 12 Academic All-Big Ten honorees this past spring.
