ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 11-ranked University of Michigan ice hockey team (3-1-1) will make a trip out east to take on Vermont (2-1-1) on Friday (Oct. 28) at Gutterson Fieldhouse in Burlington, Vermont, and Dartmouth (0-0) on Saturday (Oct. 29) at Thompson Arena in Hanover, New Hampshire.
• Michigan and Vermont meet for the first time ever. The Catamounts will mark the 119th opponent for the Wolverines in modern history and the 11th Hockey East opponent. Massachusetts is the only other Hockey East team that has never faced the Wolverines.
• The Wolverines visit Dartmouth for the first time in team history. U-M has posted a 4-3-1 record against the Big Green, with all meetings in Ann Arbor or at neutral sites. Michigan beat Dartmouth on March 19, 1948, to claim the first Frozen Four Championship but lost to the Big Green in the semifinals the following season. The two teams met for a two-game series in Ann Arbor on Nov. 27-28 last year, their first meetings since Dec. 7-8, 1979.
• Michigan went 1-0-1 over that home series against Dartmouth, winning the first game, 7-0, but tying in the second game, 1-1. Friday night's game featured four power-play goals for the Wolverines, who were led by two-goal performances from Zach Werenski and Tyler Motte as well as scores from Boo Nieves and Evan Allen. Steve Racine made 33 saves en route to his second career shutout. Saturday's contest was much tighter, but U-M managed to salvage a tie thanks to Tony Calderone's goal midway through the third period. Zach Nagelvoort kept Michigan in the game, stopping all 30 saves he faced after coming on in relief for an injured Racine.
• Freshman forward Will Lockwood earned conference recognition this week as the Big Ten Third Star of the Week. The rookie recorded a goal and an assist in each game of the weekend series against Michigan Tech, including a game-winning shorthanded goal with 52 seconds remaining in regulation on Friday night's contest.
• Freshman forward Jake Slaker posted his first multi-goal game, scoring two goals in last Friday night's game vs. Michigan Tech. He and linemate Lockwood, along with junior defenseman Sam Piazza are tied for the team lead with three goals apiece.
UP AHEAD
Michigan will head west for its first meeting with the newest D1 hockey program, Arizona State. Puck will drop Friday, Nov. 4, at 7:05 p.m. MST/PDT in Glendale, Arizona.
