
Wolverine Quintet Represents Big Ten at USA College Challenge

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Five members of the No. 7-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team represented the Big Ten on the final day of the inaugural USA College Challenge, held Sunday (Nov. 13) at IUPUI Natatorium. Team USA won the two-day meet over the Big Ten, 349-247.
Junior Paul Powers had the highest finish of any Michigan swimmer on Sunday, taking second in the 50-yard freestyle (19.79). Two others took third: junior PJ Ransford in the 1,000-yard freestyle (8:55.40) and junior Evan White in the 200-yard IM (1:46.63).
Elsewhere, fifth-year senior Luke Papendick was fifth in the 100-yard backstroke (47.41), and freshman Charlie Swanson was seventh in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:22.93).
The Big Ten also went 1-2 in the 400-yard freestyle relay to conclude the meet, with Powers swimming the anchor leg for the second-place team (2:53.28).
The Wolverines will be back in action for the Georgia Invitational, to be held Dec. 2-4 in Athens, Georgia. Several swimmers will also be representing their countries at the FINA Short Course World Championships, set for Dec. 6-11 in nearby Windsor, Canada.
