Wolverines Shut Out Cleveland State for Third Straight Win

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's tennis team won the doubles point and cruised in singles action to take a 7-0 win over Cleveland State for its third straight victory on Friday morning (Feb. 5) at the Varsity Tennis Center.
The Wolverines wrapped up the match's first point with doubles wins at No. 2 and No. 1. At No. 2, juniors Jathan Malik and Tyler Gardiner went up an early break at 3-1 and won three of the next four games to take a 6-2 decision.
After Michigan fell at No. 3, the top pair of junior/sophomore Alex Knight and sophomore Runhao Hua broke late for a 5-3 lead. Knight then served out the match in the ensuing game to clinch the doubles point with a 6-3 victory.
In singles, U-M did not drop a set all morning. Sophomore Carter Lin was first off court, winning 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4, clinching his match on an ace up the middle.
Knight, on the next court over at No. 2, followed less than a minute later with a 6-1, 6-4 victory. Malik was right behind Knight, clinching Michigan's win with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the top spot.
With the match in hand, freshman Lubomir Cuba picked up his first singles win in a dual match with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 6. Junior/sophomore Davis Crocker prevailed in a second-set tiebreaker (7-5) to take a win at No. 3.
Michigan kept the Vikings off the board when freshman Gabe Tishman also won a second-set tiebreaker, 7-3, for his first dual-match win.
Michigan continues action later today, hosting Detroit at 4 p.m.
