COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team opened up competition at Ohio State's Jesse Owens Stadium on Friday (April 22), competing on the track and also throwing javelin at the Buckeyes' Jesse Owens Classic.
THROWS
Freshman Elizabeth Prieskorn set a new PR in the javelin by almost nine feet, breaking out in a big way on her final attempt at 36.42 meters (119-5.75 ft.). Prieskorn's PR did not make the final but showed a significant improvement on her prior season best.
MID-DISTANCE/DISTANCE
Several Wolverines competed at 1,500 meters, running both in-uniform and unattached.
Junior/sophomore Courtney Munley was the top finisher in uniform, running in the second heat and finishing in 4:36.84 for 18th overall.
Volunteer assistant Rebecca Addison finished third in the first heat, running 4:22.90 for Saucony. Other top unattached finishers include Kira Garry (13th; fifth in heat two) and Sydney Badger (15th; seventh in heat two).
U-M continues events in Columbus, Ohio, with events beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday (April 23). The shot put will start things off for the Wolverines a half hour later, and events on the track begin at noon with the 4x100-meter relay.
