WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- Recently graduated All-American Ronit Yurovsky has received an invitation to the third annual American Collegiate Invitational at the 2016 US Open, set for Sept. 8-10 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
The American Collegiate Invitational, open only to American college players, began in 2014 as a way to spotlight college tennis during the US Open. Eight women play a single-elimination singles tournament during the second week of the US Open, with the winners receiving a wild card into the 2017 US Open, main draw or qualifying, depending on her ranking next summer.
The American Collegiate Invitational women's champion will receive a 2017 US Open main draw wild card if she is ranked No. 150 or better. Otherwise, the winner will receive wild-card entries into the US Open Qualifying Tournament. The champion will also get wild cards into two USTA Pro Circuit events, while the runner-up will receive one.
Yurovsky earned the first All-America citation of her career in 2016, picking up the distinction in singles after finishing the season with a No. 12 ranking and earning a No. 9-16 seed for the NCAA Singles Championship. Her No. 12 season-ending ranking is the second best in school history behind Denise Muresan's No. 6 ranking to end the 2011 season. A captain during her senior season, Yurovsky became the first Wolverine in school history to go 4-0 during the NCAA Tournament, winning all four of her singles matches at the No. 1 position. She finished the season with a 27-11 mark, including an 18-5 record at No. 1. A three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, Yurovsky left Michigan with a sport management degree and the third-most singles wins in a career (117).
Yurovsky is the first Wolverine to participate in the tournament.
