The University of Michigan women's basketball team (14-4, 3-1 Big Ten) concludes a two-game homestand on Sunday (Jan. 15), hosting Minnesota (10-7, 1-3 Big Ten) at 4:30 p.m. at Crisler Center. The game can be seen live on the Big Ten Network.
• For the eighth time this season, the Wolverines shot at least 50 percent from the floor when they hit 51.9 percent of their shots against Indiana (Jan. 10). It is Michigan's first 50-percent shooting game since hitting 56.7 percent against American (Dec. 22). On the season, U-M is third in the Big Ten in field goal percentage at 47.8 percent. Michigan is up to 41.3 percent from behind three-point range, which leads the conference and ranks third nationally. U-M is the only team in the conference shooting at least 40 percent from distance.
• Sophomore Hallie Thome has turned it up since the Wolverines hit conference play, recording a double-double in two of Michigan's four Big Ten games. The sophomore leads U-M in Big Ten games in both scoring (20.3 ppg) and rebounding (9.3 rpg). Thome ranks sixth in the conference in scoring and fifth in rebounding in Big Ten contests. She is shooting 69.0 percent from the floor and 74.2 percent from the free throw line.
• The Golden Gophers (10-7, 1-3 B1G) were last in action on Jan. 7, picking up an 88-60 win over Wisconsin at home. Minnesota features three double-digit scorers in Carlie Wagner (18.2 ppg), Kenisha Bell (17.3 ppg) and Gadiva Hubbard (13.8 ppg). The Gophers are averaging 76.2 points per game on 40.5-percent shooting while giving up 74.1 points per game on 38.4-percent shooting. Minnesota leads the all-time series against Michigan, 34-27, but U-M swept the Gophers last season.
• Senior Siera Thompson, who hit four free throws in the final 15 seconds to seal Michigan's win over Indiana on Tuesday (Jan. 10), is closing in on Jenny Ryan for second on the all-time assists list at Michigan. Thompson now has 468 assists in 122 career games (3.8 per game). Ryan is second with 489, with Anne Thorius in first with 537. Thompson is also 57 points away from breaking into the top 10 in career scoring at U-M.
• Michigan is 9-0 at Crisler Center this season after knocking off Indiana, 78-74, on Tuesday (Jan. 10). U-M is averaging 83.7 points per game on 49.2-percent shooting at home while holding opponents to 48.7 points per game on 32.5-percent shooting. Michigan is taking advantage of the third quarter at home, outscoring opponents, 229-108, in the first 10 minutes after the half. U-M is 59-22 at Crisler Center under fifth-year head coach Kim Barnes Arico.
