Balanced Attack Sends Wolverines Past Grand Valley

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team had four players in double figures and held Grand Valley to single digits in each of the final three quarters to pick up a 65-43 exhibition win over the Lakers on Thursday (Nov. 2) inside Crisler Center.
Senior Katelynn Flaherty led the way offensively, turning in 19 points with seven rebounds, four assists and a steal in 33 minutes of action. Freshman Hailey Brown went for 10 points and seven rebounds, junior Hallie Thome turned in 10 points, and junior Nicole Munger also scored 10 points. Sophomore Kayla Robbins had six points, 11 rebounds, two blocks and two steals in 23 minutes off the bench.
After a slow start, Michigan made a run in the second quarter, turning a five-point deficit in the opening minutes into a nine-point halftime lead. A Munger three-pointer from the corner with 4:31 on the clock put Michigan up for good, 26-25. The Maize and Blue continued its run over the rest of the quarter, holding GVSU without a field goal over the final 5:03 for a 36-27 halftime lead. Robbins turned in a key four points over the closing run, including a steal-and-score.
GVSU scored the first five points of the third quarter, but Munger stopped the run with her second triple of the contest, pushing U-M's lead back to seven, 39-32, just a minute in. GVSU managed just three more points the rest of the stanza as the Maize and Blue took a 47-35 lead into the final quarter.
Michigan distanced itself from GVSU over the final 10 minutes, outscoring the Lakers, 18-8. Brown scored eight points for the Maize and Blue in the final quarter as U-M led by as many as 26 points en route to the 22-point win.
