WOLVERINE BITES
• The matchup with James Madison is the first in a three-game homestand for the Maize and Blue. Michigan will also host Notre Dame (Feb. 18) and San Diego State (Feb. 24) prior to heading to California for its 2017 spring trip.
• U-M head coach Jennifer Ulehla was previously the head coach at James Madison from 1994-2002, where she led the Dukes to the program's lone NCAA Final Four showing in 2000. It will mark the first time Ulehla and the Wolverines will face James Madison in program history. Ulehla was inducted into the James Madison University Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013.
• Michigan dropped its 2017 season opener at Oregon by a score of 11-8. Anna Schueler led U-M with a game-high four points on three assists and one goal, and also matched her career high with six draw controls. Kim Coughlan, Tess Korten and Lauren Oberlander each scored two goals for the Wolverines.
• With her two goals at Oregon, senior attacker Tess Korten came within one point of joining the 100-point club, as she now has 80 goals and 19 assists. During the 2016 season, three different players joined the 100-career point club, marking the first Wolverines in program history to do so. Jess Angerman became the first player in program history to reach 100 career points, while Schueler and Coughlan reached the milestone later in the season. Angerman now has 122 points, while Schueler has 121 and Coughlan has 102.
• Both Maize and Blue goalkeepers saw action in Michigan's season opener at Oregon. Sophomore Mira Shane earned the start and played 17 minutes before sophomore/freshman Alli Kothari entered the game. Kothari made a return to the field for the first time since Feb. 7, 2016, when she suffered a season-ending knee injury in her collegiate debut, making seven saves against the Ducks.
• Freshmen Molly Garrett, Lilly Grass, and Chandler Kirby made their collegiate debuts against Oregon. Garrett earned the start and recorded one goal, four draw controls, one ground ball, and one caused turnover. Kirby also added one draw control.
• Michigan dominated the draw control in the season opener at Oregon, 16-5, including a 10-1 edge in the first half. Coughlan is U-M's go-to draw specialist, while a number of Wolverines play on the draw circle to help the Wolverines gain possession. Schueler pulled down six draw controls, while Garrett recorded four and Coughlan won three.
