REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. -- The No. 3-ranked University of Michigan rowing team wrapped up competition at the Pac-12 Challenge on Sunday (April 2), racing against No. 1-ranked California on Redwood Shores Lake to close out the team's first west-coast venture of the spring season.
Much like Saturday's morning session, skies were partly cloudy for today's races, with temperatures floating in the high 50s and low 60s.
The morning started off with 1V8 races, and Cal, which had its first boat already beat No. 7 Virginia and No. 2 Ohio State earlier in the weekend, came in ahead of the Wolverines in 6:20.53. The Golden Bears closed an undefeated weekend in their home state with the win.
U-M's Sunday victory came courtesy of the 2V8 boat, which recorded a win of more than three seconds, crossing the finish line at 6:22.81, with Cal coming in at 6:26.62.
In facing stiff competition over the last two days and coming away with a handful of victories, the Wolverines were able to turn this weekend into a beneficial one.
"It was a productive weekend for us against great competition," said head coach Mark Rothstein.
"It was an especially great race for our 2V8 boat (this morning) over Cal. That was our best race of the weekend, I thought. Now we are excited to get back to work and continue to improve."
Michigan returns to the Great Lakes State next weekend, competing alongside the Michigan State Spartans in a Big Ten Double Dual format on Saturday (April 8) in East Lansing. Race time is set for 9 a.m.
