ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior Allison Skaggs and freshman Maddy Steere of the University of Michigan water polo team received ACWPC All-America honors on Monday (June 5), giving the U-M program an All-America selection in 16 straight seasons.
This is the fourth straight year that multiple Wolverines landed on the All-America list as Skaggs was named to the second team, with Steere receiving honorable mention.
Skaggs joins Olympian Betsey Armstrong and Kiki Golden as the only Michigan players to earn All-America honors in all four seasons. Skaggs earned All-America honorable mention her first three years before climbing to the second team as a senior. She is just the fourth first or second team selection in program history, joining Ali Thomason (first team in 2016), Armstrong (second team in 2004) and Alison Mantel (second team in 2011).
As a senior, Skaggs led U-M to the NCAA Championship for the second straight year and seventh time overall. She scored a team-high 61 goals and also led the Wolverines during conference play with 23 scores on her way to being named CWPA Player of the Year. She also led the team with 42 drawn exclusions and 27 field blocks while also finishing with 77 points and 27 steals.
Steere picked up All-America honors in her first season in Ann Arbor. It is the second straight year that Dr. Marcelo Leonardi has coached a freshman to All-America accolades as Kim Johnson also received honorable mention last year. Steere became just the second freshman at Michigan to reach 100 points, finishing with 51 goals and 49 assists to rank third on the team. She also had 45 steals and eight field blocks in her first collegiate season.
In all, Michigan has had 38 All-America selections by 17 different players in its 17-year program history.
