ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan ice hockey team is holding an online auction of the commemorative Red Berenson jerseys that were worn on Friday, Jan. 5, during the pregame warmup on the night that Red Berenson Rink at Yost Ice Arena was officially dedicated.
These classic jerseys, similar to the sweater that Berenson wore in his 1961-62 season, feature Berenson's No. 9 on the back and front, along with "Berenson" on the nameplate and the captain's "C" at the top. The opening bid for each jersey is $250 and will be available through a silent auction, which is currently open to the public and will close at 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 22. All proceeds will benefit the Red Berenson Ice Hockey Scholarship Fund.
While he retired from coaching after the 2016-17 season, Berenson continues to serve the Michigan Athletics Department as he works to fulfil his goal of endowing all Michigan ice hockey scholarships. Current financial commitments exceed $20 million.
This auction is an opportunity for Michigan fans to bid on and win these exclusive jerseys and benefit the Red Berenson Ice Hockey Scholarship Fund.Â
