ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 16-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team (18-4, 7-2 B1G) is back on the road Sunday (Jan. 28), traveling to Northwestern to take on the Wildcats (9-13, 2-6 B1G) at 2 p.m. CST. The game will be played at Evanston Township High School as Welsh-Ryan Arena is being renovated.
• Michigan is riding a five-game winning streak in Big Ten play, the fourth-longest streak in program history. U-M won six straight league games last season, as two of Michigan's four longest streaks have come under head coach Kim Barnes Arico. U-M won seven straight Big Ten games during the 1989-90 season and eight consecutive to end the 1999-2000 conference season. Coupled with a Big Ten-opening win in the 2000-01 season, Michigan's school record for consecutive Big Ten victories is nine.
• Michigan is past the halfway point in Big Ten action, going 7-2 through the first nine games. U-M is in second place in the Big Ten standings, a half-game behind Maryland (7-1).
• Head coach Kim Barnes Arico enters the game against Northwestern with 399 career wins, one away from becoming the seventh active Big Ten head coach to reach 400. KBA is Michigan's all-time wins leader with 129 and is still the winningest coach at St. John's with 176 victories.
• Freshman Hailey Brown has hit her stride since Big Ten play began, upping her output to 10.1 points and 5.9 rebounds in 24.9 minutes per game. She is shooting 53.5 percent (38-of-71) from the floor in conference games and connecting on 53.8 percent (7-of-13) of her three-pointers. Brown has scored in double figures four times and recorded a pair of double-doubles since conference season started. On the season, she is averaging 8.7 points and 5.6 rebounds in 24.0 minutes per game. She joins Hallie Thome as the only freshmen to start every game under sixth-year head coach Kim Barnes Arico.
• Northwestern (9-13, 2-6 B1G) has dropped three straight, but nearly pulled off the upset of No. 14 Maryland on Thursday, dropping a 68-65 contest to the Terps. NU features three double-figure scorers in Lindsey Pulliam (14.2 ppg), Abi Scheid (12.8 ppg) and Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah (10.8 ppg). The Wildcats are averaging 62.0 points per game on 43.1 percent shooting while allowing 63.5 points per game on 39.4 percent shooting.
