ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Senior co-captain Ivo Cerda of the University of Michigan men's soccer team has been chosen as a Google Cloud Academic All-District selection for the third year in a row, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced on Thursday (Nov. 8).
The Academic All-District honor recognizes Cerda as one of the nation's top student-athletes for his combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Cerda advances to the Google Cloud Academic All-America ballot; first-, second- and third-team honorees will be announced in early December. He was an Academic All-American last year as a junior.
Cerda, a native of Santiago, Chile, has started 13 matches this year for the Wolverines as a midfielder, but has not played since exiting the team's Oct. 16 match with Notre Dame. He has two goals and two assists this season, including the overtime game-winner on Sept. 7 vs. Western Michigan. For his career, Cerda has played in 64 matches (60 starts), with nine goals and five assists.
He will graduate in the spring with a degree in cellular and molecular biology, and plans pursue a master's degree in biomedical engineering.
Michigan will play Wisconsin in the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament on Friday (Nov. 9) at Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana. The match will begin at 3:30 p.m.
