Wolverines to Close Regular Season in Saturday Matinee at Maryland

The No. 17-ranked University of Michigan men's basketball team (21-7, 10-5 B1G) will close its Big Ten regular season at Maryland (19-11, 8-9 B1G), Saturday (Feb. 24) at the Xfinity Center in College Park, Maryland. Tipoff is scheduled for noon with the game broadcast on ESPN.
THE SERIES WITH MARYLAND
• Saturday's game marks the 12th all-time meeting between Michigan and Maryland.
• U-M trails in the overall series with a 5-6 record against the Terrapins.
• Saturday's game is the teams' second meeting of the regular season. U-M was able to escape with a 68-67 victory over Maryland at Crisler Center on Jan. 15. After Kevin Huerter hit a go-ahead three-pointer with 3.2 seconds left, Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman hit two free throws with 1.2 seconds remaining after catching a half-court pass and was fouled driving to the basket.
• U-M coach John Beilein is 2-4 all-time against Maryland.
A LITTLE ABOUT THE TERRAPINS
• Maryland brings a 19-11 overall record, including an 8-9 mark in Big Ten play, into the regular-season finale. The Terrapins are 15-2 at home this season.
• Three players score in double figures for Maryland, led by Anthony Cowan's 15.7 points per game. Kevin Huerter adds 14.7 points per contest and Bruno Fernando chips in 10.1 points per game.
• The Terrapins lead the Big Ten in free-throw percentage, shooting 75.2 percent as a team, which ranks 54th nationally. Anthony Cowan is Maryland's team leader at 84.4 percent (151-of-179).
• Mark Turgeon is in his seventh season as the head coach at Maryland. Turgeon has led the Terps to the NCAA Tournament in three consecutive seasons (2015, '16, '17) and also guided Wichita State (2006) and Texas A&M (2008, '09, '10, '11) to NCAA Tournament appearances.
EARLIER THIS REGULAR SEASON ... U-M ESCAPES WITH LATE FREE THROWS
• Michigan overcame a 10-point halftime deficit to take down Maryland in dramatic fashion, 68-67, at Crisler Center.
• A layup by Zavier Simpson with 25 seconds to go gave U-M a five-point edge, 66-61. The Terrapins responded with back-to-back threes, the second from Kevin Huerter, with only three seconds remaining in the game.
• After a U-M timeout, the Wolverines inbounded the ball under the Terrapins' basket and Isaiah Livers found Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman just across midcourt. The senior captain was fouled as he drove hard to the basket with 1.2 seconds to go.
• With the Wolverines in the double-bonus, Abdur-Rahkman stepped to the line and sank two free throws to record his 1,000th career point and the win.
SEEDING SHAPING UP FOR THE BIG TEN TOURNAMENT
• U-M has clinched no worse than the No. 5 seed in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament.
• The Wolverines could clinch the No. 4 seed in the Big Ten tournament if U-M defeats Maryland (Saturday, Feb. 24) and Penn State wins at Nebraska (Sunday, Feb. 25). If the Maize and Blue secures that seed, it earns a a double bye in the Big Ten event.

• Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman has played in 128 consecutive games for U-M with 56 straight starts.
• Duncan Robinson has played in 113 straight games dating back to his final nine games at Williams College. He has not missed a game as a Wolverine -- playing in 104 straight.
• When Robinson scores six points or more, U-M is a perfect 19-0.
• Moritz Wagner has the most three-pointers (47) by any player in the nation 6-foot-11 or taller.
• When Wagner records a double-double, U-M is 7-0.
• When Jordan Poole scores in double figures, U-M is 9-0.
MAIZE AND BLUE THINGS
• The 72-63 victory at Penn State gave U-M its 23rd victory of the season and added to John Beilein's eighth 20-win campaign in 11 seasons. An eighth 20-win season under Beilein is more than a quarter of U-M's 29 total 20-win seasons in 102 years of Michigan basketball.
• Additionally, with the win over Penn State gave U-M 12 Big Ten wins -- the most since 2013-14 (15).
• The 12 conference wins helps Beilein post a third straight season with 10-plus conference wins as well as six of the last seven seasons. Beilein's 110 career Big Ten victories lists him 19th all-time in the history of the conference.
• Duncan Robinson has rekindled his long-range shot, going 13-for-23 (56.5 percent) over his last four games. In the 13 previous Big Ten games, he was 15-for-53 (28.3 percent).
• U-M is making 9.1 three-pointers per game, which is second in the conference. Duncan Robinson leads the team with 59, while Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman (career-best 47) and Wagner (47) are second. Jordan Poole is fourth (33).
• U-M ranks second in the nation for fewest turnovers per game with 9.33. Virginia leads the nation at 8.85 (239 in 27 games). The Wolverines are also fifth in the nation and atop the Big Ten with a 1.60 ratio.
• Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman leads the nation with a 5.16 assist-to-turnover ratio (98 assists, 19 TOs), while Zavier Simpson is 11th at 3.14 (110 assists, 35 TOs).
• According to the latest Ken Pom stats, U-M ranks 39th in offensive efficiency and 17th in defensive efficiency.
• U-M's previous best Ken Pom defensive efficiency under Beilein was 37th in 2011. Offensively, Beilein was among the top five three times in the last six years -- 1st (2013), 3rd (2014), 4th (2017).
