
Twelve Wolverines Aim to Improve Season-Best Times at Last Chance Meet

» Twelve members of the No. 7-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team swam for faster times in its home pool on Tuesday. It served as the final opportunity to improve on season-best times before the NCAA announces its selections next Wednesday (March 7).

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Twelve members of the No. 7-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team swam for faster times in its home pool, competing in the Michigan Last Chance Meet on Tuesday (Feb. 27) at Canham Natatorium.
Two swimmers improved on times: sophomore Rob Zofchak in the 200-yard freestyle (1:37.46) and freshman Luiz Gustavo Borges in the 100-yard freestyle (43.16).
Other swimmers in action included Tim Hanson in the 500-yard freestyle (4:32.95), Stephen Holmquist in the 400-yard IM (3:52.46), Jon Burkett in the 100-yard butterfly (46.81), Alex King in the 200-yard freestyle (1:37.55), Alex Martin in the 100-yard backstroke (47.78), Kai Williams in the 100-yard backstroke (49.43), Seth Kyriakidis in the 100-yard freestyle (46.20) and Ryan Sebastian in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:00.23). Two distance swimmers also swam the mile to try and improve times: PJ Ransford went 14:49.48, while Will Roberts went 15:19.98.
Less than a week after winning the title at the Big Ten Championships, the 200-yard freestyle relay of James Jones, Luiz Gustavo Borges, James Peek and Paul Powers raced again, going 1:17.38. The foursome already had qualified for the NCAA Championships with an NCAA "A" cut last week.
Divers Steven Anderson, Chris Canning, Jake Herremans and Ross Todd will attempt to qualify for the NCAA Championships at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, held March 8-10 in Columbus, Ohio.
