COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Freshman Ross Todd of the No. 7-ranked University of Michigan men's swimming and diving team jumped four spots in the final two rounds of the three-meter final to qualify for the NCAA Championships on the first day of the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, held Thursday (March 8) at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
Todd becomes the first Michigan men's diver to qualify for the NCAA Championships since Jason Coben in 2004.
Todd sat in 11th place after preliminaries and qualified for the final despite not hitting his final two dives (scored 40.50 and 40.80, respectively). Todd was in 13th place with two rounds to go and needed to make the top 10 in order to qualify. He ended up scoring 66.00 on his 305b and 73.10 on his 5154b -- his two highest scores of the day -- to cement his spot in the top 10. With his spot on three-meter confirmed, Todd can dive one-meter and/or platform at NCAAs with top-12 finishes this weekend.
