CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- A pair of University of Michigan women's track and field underclassmen sprinters and a relay team notched top-three finishes at the Miami Hurricane Invitational as the Wolverines kicked off their 2018 outdoor season on Saturday (March 17).
Sophomore Jade Harrison approached the school record at 100 meters en route to a third-place finish over that distance, and true freshman Chloe Foster also took third in her U-M outdoor debut in the 400-meter hurdles.
Harrison also joined forces with senior Meghan Marias, redshirt freshman Torisa Johnson and true freshman Lauren Morgan for a third-place showing in the 4x100 relay.
Harrison was the top performer of Michigan's opening weekend of the spring season, clocking a career-best 11.64 into the slight resistance of a 0.1 meter-per-second headwind for nearly a third-of-a-second improvement over her previous personal record.
Only three women in Michigan history have run faster under wind-legal conditions (2.0 m/s or less wind) in school record-holder Cindy Ofili (11.39, 2015), Richelle Webb (11.42, 1994) and Sierra Hauser-Price (11.52, 2003).
Also at 100 meters, Johnson impressed in her U-M outdoor debut with an 11.93 into a stiffer 0.7m/s headwind to take seventh, while Marias was 10th in 12.02 (-0.1m/s).
That trio and Morgan combined to clock 45.68 in the 4x100 relay, just .67 shy of the 45.01 school record established two decades ago at the 1998 Big Ten Championships.
Foster was the other top-three finisher on the day for Michigan as she clocked 1:03.00 in the 400-meter hurdles. Also in her U-M debut in the event, true freshman Jenna Reid was fifth.
