U-M Sweeps Nebraska on Senior Day to Close Out Regular Season

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 12-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team finished the regular season on Sunday (April 22) by sweeping Nebraska, 7-0 at the Varsity Tennis Center. Three seniors played on Senior Day, with all three coming away victorious.
Michigan took the doubles point, winning at Nos. 1 and 2. The No. 13-ranked tandem of senior Alex Knight and Runhao Hua wasted no time in their match, coming away with a 6-1 victory. The securing victory at No. 2 from sophomore Connor Johnston and junior Myles Schalet. The third pairing of freshmen Kristofer Siimar and Harrison Brown was at match point when the doubles point was won.
During the intermission between doubles and singles play, the Wolverine senior class was honored. Knight, Hua, Davis Crocker and Carter Lin were all recognized on the court during their final regular-season home match for the contributions they have made to the program over their four years in the Maize and Blue.
U-M continued rolling in singles play with Brown picking up a 6-1, 6-0 win in his first dual-match singles appearance this year at No. 6. Crocker followed suit one court over at No. 5 and rolled to a straight set victory, winning both sets by scores of 6-2. Crocker's five-match win streak in singles play is the longest active streak on the team. The match was clinched when Knight finished off his regular-season career with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
The Wolverines did not let up after the match was won, with Mattias Siimar earning a 6-0, 6-2 victory moments after Knight's victory. Hua was in a battle in his first set but came back to win 6-4, then shut out his opponent in the second set, 6-0. The last match to finish was the only match that needed three sets, but Schalet was able to overcome a second-set setback to win 6-1, 0-6, 6-3.
Michigan will head to Iowa City, Iowa, next weekend (April 26-29) for the Big Ten Tournament. The Wolverines receive a first-day bye as the No. 3 seed and will start the tournament on Friday (April 27) against either No. 6 seed Wisconsin or No. 11 seed Nebraska at 2 p.m. CDT.
