EVANSTON, Ill. -- The No. 11-ranked University of Michigan men's tennis team earned the doubles point and three straight-sets wins in singles play to earn a 4-0 win over Northwestern on Sunday afternoon (April 8) in a Big Ten Conference matchup.
Michigan earned the doubles point after wins at Nos. 1 and 2. Sophomore Connor Johnston and junior Myles Schalet teamed up in the top doubles spot and came away with a 6-3 victory. The duo of freshman Mattias Siimar and senior Runhao Hua captured the first point of the match after a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
The Wolverines kept the momentum going in singles play with three straight-sets wins to capture the clean sweep. Schalet made quick work at No. 3, earning a 6-4, 6-2 win for his 16th of the season. Senior Carter Lin clinched the third point for U-M after a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at No. 5, while Hua continued his winning ways to improve his season record to 20-6 after a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 2. Â
Michigan will be back on the road next weekend when it travels to Wisconsin on Friday (April 13). First serve is scheduled for 3 p.m. CDT.
