In U-M's final day in Barcelona (Saturday, Aug. 25), the Wolverines had another relaxing early part of the day in Barcelona. After breakfast some of the staff and players went on one last shopping excursion before getting ready for their final game against Joventut Badalona.
Returning to Sant Julia de Vilatorta, the Maize and Blue was welcomed to a packed house at the Pavelló Esportiu Municipal for its game with Joventut Badalona. Despite a strong effort, U-M lost, 85-79, to La Penya (as the team is known to its fans), who took a break from its two-week training camp to play Michigan.
Leading the way for the Maize and Blue were sophomore Isaiah Livers and freshman Ignas Brazdeikis with 15 apiece, while senior Charles Matthews had 14 (all in second half). Junior Austin Davis added 12, sophomore Jordan Poole and junior Jon Teske each had seven, while sophomore Eli Brooks had five and junior Zavier Simpson chipped in four.
In an entertaining first quarter, the Wolverines used a strong inside presence from Davis to keep the game tied, 21-21, as the horn sounded. As the pace of play continued throughout the second quarter, U-M and Joventut Badalona remained battle in a back-and-forth, one-possession game. After the Maize and Blue tied the game (37-37) with 10 seconds left, a Joventut Badalona three-point prayer was answered as the clock expired, giving La Penya a 40-37 lead at the half.

Coming out of the half, U-M scored first but could not get shots to fall as Joventut Badalona continued to execute on the other end with back-door cuts and second-chance buckets. Despite getting good looks, the Maize and Blue trailed by seven, 61-54, after the third quarter.
Joventut Badalona continued its offensive conversions in the final quarter with driving layups and back-door cuts, as La Penya built a double-digit lead and never looked back, despite being outscored, 25-24, in the quarter. With time running out, U-M elected not to foul and fell  85-79. With the loss, U-M closed its trip with a 1-2 record.
As Sunday (Aug. 26) begins our journey back to Ann Arbor, all of us with Michigan basketball wanted to thank Leo, Carmen and Darren from Anthony Travel for a wonderful trip and memories which will last a lifetime. Gracias!!
So one more time ... #VamosAzul
