ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's gymnastics team opened the season with two away meets, and this Friday (Jan. 18) fans will have a chance to see the team compete in Crisler Center for the first time in 2019.
Sensory Friendly Meet
• Sensory Friendly Meet -- Join the Michigan women's gymnastics team in its sixth Annual Sensory Friendly Meet as they work to raise awareness within the community about developmental disabilities and provide an accommodating atmosphere for all fans.
• Adaptive Gymnastics Pre-Meet Performance -- Be sure to arrive early, as there will be a special pre-meet performance by the gymnasts from Adaptive Gymnastics.

• HAIL Bonus (U-M students only) -- Be sure to check in on the HAIL app to earn bonus points for this meet, and visit the concourse for FREE pizza!

Facing Michigan State
• Friday's meet will mark the 111th meeting between Michigan and Michigan State, with U-M leading,72-38, in the all-time series with the Spartans. The Wolverines have won the last 27 meetings dating back to the last MSU win in 2007.
• Sophomore Anne Maxim is a transfer from Michigan State, where she competed on all four events throughout the season, including a career-high 9.900 on bars against Penn State and a 9.800 on vault in two meets.
Last Time Out
• Michigan placed third behind Denver and Alabama at the Alabama Quad Meet last Friday (Jan. 11), scoring a 196.025.
• U-M closed the meet with a strong vault performance, featuring two scores of 9.900 or better and a 49.350 rotation score.
• Freshman Natalie Wojcik won on both vault (9.950) and balance beam (9.875), and took the top all-around score (39.450).
• Senior Olilva Karas competed on floor exercise for the first time since suffering a season-ending injury last February and scored a 9.725.
• Freshman Abby Brenner earned her first career 9.900 on vault to place third.
• Junior Lexi Funk tied for second on beam with a 9.850.
Wojcik off to a Fast Start
• Natalie Wojcik has been impressive in her first two collegiate meets, winning five individual events and the all-around in each.
• Wojcik's all-around score of 39.625 at the Cancun Classic was a school-record score for a U-M debut and tied for the 28th best score in school history.
• She has scored a 9.975 and 9.950 on her two vaults to rank tied for No. 1 in the nation in the event.
• Wojcik was named Big Ten Gymnast and Freshman of the Week after the Cancun Classic and repeated as the Freshman of the Week after the Alabama quad meet.
Karas Returns to Floor
• Senior Olivia Karas made her return to floor exercise last Friday. She was inserted into the lineup during warmups and competed her routine for the first time since suffering a season-ending injury in the event last February. She scored a 9.725, and was filled with emotion as her team surrounded her and gave her hugs.
In the Rankings
• U-M fell three spots in the rankings to No. 9 on the season.
• The Wolverines are No. 3 on vault and No. 9 on bars while ranking outside the top 20 on beam and floor.
• Natalie Wojcik is ranked on three events and the all-around. She is tied for first in the nation on vault, tied for sixth on beam, tied for 39th on bars and is No. 7 in the all-around.
• Senior Emma McLean is ranked tied for 11th on vault along with Brenner.
• Funk is tied for 45th on beam and Karas is tied for 25th in the all-around.
• Michigan was ranked No. 9 in the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association preseason poll.
Home Slate
• Michigan will have three regular-season home meets remaining after this week's contest against Michigan State. The Wolverines will face Nebraska on Feb. 3, Iowa on Feb. 10 and Oklahoma on Mar. 9.
