
Michigan to Host Nebraska in Annual 'Flip for Chip' Meet

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 10-ranked University of Michigan women's gymnastics team will honor the life of Chip Hills on Sunday when it takes on No. 13 Nebraska in its annual Flip for Chip meet on Sunday (Feb. 3) at 2 p.m. in Crisler Center.
Flip For Chip Meet
• Flip for Chip -- Join the Michigan women's gymnastics team in its fourth annual Flip for Chip meet as we honor the life of Chip Hills, father of former Michigan gymnast Cailee Hills.
• Purple Meet -- The Wolverines will be wearing purple shirts in warmups and will have purple ribbons in their hair along with Flip for Chip stickers on the back of their necks to raise awareness for pancreatic cancer in honor of Hills' battle. The team encourages fans to wear shirts and ribbons of a cancer that has affected them.
Promotions
• Girl Scouts Day -- All Girl Scouts troops are invited to attend this match! GSHOM troops can contact the regional office for more information.
• Are you Shorter than a Michigan Gymnast -- Measure your height against the gymnastics cutout located on the concourse outside of section 136. If you are shorter than the gymnast, you will receive a free ticket for the Michigan vs. Oklahoma meet on Saturday, March 9 at noon.
• Postmeet Autographs -- Meet your favorite gymnasts as select members of the team will be signing autographs on the concourse following the meet, and be sure to pick up their official trading card during their autograph session.
• Giveaway -- Purple LED light sticks (first 2,500 fans)
Facing Nebraska
• Michigan and Nebraska will meet for the 50th time, with the Wolverines leading the all-time series with the Cornhuskers, 27-21-1.
• The series is split, 3-3, in the last six meetings; U-M had won four straight before that.
• The last meeting in Crisler Center was a 197.225-194.800 Michigan win in 2017.
Last Time Out
• Michigan improved to 2-0 in the Big Ten with a season-high 196.400 at Maryland.Â
• The Wolverines swept the event and all-around titles, with freshman Natalie Wojcik claiming four of the five and senior Olivia Karas winning the floor exercise.
• Wojcik earned wins on vault (9.925), uneven bars (9.875), balance beam (9.925) and the all-around (39.625) while taking second on floor with her first career 9.900 on that event.
• Karas won floor for the second straight meet with a 9.925.
• Michigan had season-high scores on both beam (49.225) and floor (49.200).
• Sophomore transfer Anne Maxim made her Michigan debut with a 9.700 on bars.Â
Big Ten Race
• Through two weekends of Big Ten Conference competition, there is a four-way tie for first place.
• Michigan, Nebraska, Ohio State and Minnesota have all started out the season with a 2-0 record against league competition.
• The Michigan and Nebraska matchup will be the only matchup of unbeatens this week. Those two and Minnesota are the only three schools to win Big Ten regular season titles. On Saturday (Feb. 2), Minnesota will host Michigan State while Ohio State will host Iowa.Â
Wojcik An NCAA Star
• Freshman Natalie Wojcik has won at least two individual events in all four meets this season, tallying 10 total. She also has won the all-around and balance beam in all three meets.
• The freshman has posted a 9.900 on all four events at some point this season and has twice hit the 39.625 mark in the all-around.
• She has stuck three of her four vaults, leading to an outpouring of support from gymnastics fans around the country who think she has deserved multiple 10s on the event.Â
• In the rankings, Wojcik is No. 3 on vault, No. 5 on beam, tied for 21st on bars and No. 9 in the all-around.
Return to Floor
• Olivia Karas made her first appearance on floor exercise when the team traveled to Alabama (Jan. 11) since she suffered a season-ending injury on the event last season.
• She was added last-minute to the lineup and scored a 9.725 in an emotional return.
• The last two meets, Karas has won the event as the anchor in the lineup with a 9.875 against Michigan State and 9.925 at Maryland.
In the Rankings
• U-M fell two spots to No. 10 on the season in the latest rankings.
• The Wolverines are No. 5 on vault and No. 11 on bars and beam.
• Wojcik is ranked on three events and the all-around. Karas is tied for 45th on bars and is 27th in the all-around.
• Michigan was ranked No. 9 in the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association preseason poll.
Home Slate
• Michigan has back-to-back home meets the next two weekends with Nebraska coming to town Sunday (Feb. 3) and Iowa will come to Ann Arbor next Sunday (Feb. 10). The Wolverines' final regular-season home meet will be Saturday, March 9 against Oklahoma.
