The University of Michigan men's and women's swimming and diving program will hold a Maize and Blue Intrasquad meet at 5 p.m. Friday (Oct. 18) at Canham Natatorium. Admission is free.
The teams were scheduled to host a two-day double-dual meet, with the No. 8-ranked Michigan men facing No. 4 Virginia and No. 16 Tennessee on Oct. 18-19. However, on Wednesday (Oct. 16), U-M was informed that Virginia and Tennessee were pulling out of the meet.
Team Notes
• Michigan is ranked No. 8 in the first CSCAA/TYR Top 25 poll of the season, released on Oct. 9. [ Rankings ]
• The Wolverines opened the season with wins over Navy (225-75) and Miami University (253-45) during a two-day meet held Sept. 20-21 at Canham Natatorium. [ Recap ]
• Two swimmers recorded NCAA 'B' times in the opening meet of the season. Senior Tommy Cope achieved the standard in both the 100-yard breaststroke (54.09) and 200-yard breaststroke (1:58.39), while senior Miles Smachlo hit the mark in the 200-yard butterfly (1:46.59).
• Among the freshmen that made their season debuts in the Navy/Miami double dual are Danny Berlitz, Kevin Bradley, Nick Leavell, Jack McCurdy, Cam Peel, Andrew Trepanier, Donald Scott, River Wright and Noah Yarian. Additionally, Michael MacGillivray made his Michigan debut after sitting out last season due to injury.
• Junior Ross Todd is off to a fast start, posting team-best scores on one-meter (369.75) and three-meter (401.15). Todd, senior Jake Herremans (1M, 3M) and junior Chris Canning (3M) already have qualified for the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships in March.
• Smachlo (Swimmer), Todd (Diver) and River Wright (Freshman) each earned the first batch of Big Ten weekly awards on Sept. 25.
