ROSEMONT, Ill. -- Sophomore Naz Hillmon was unanimously named to the Preseason All-Big Ten team by both the coaches and media, as announced by the conference on Monday (Oct. 21) as part of Big Ten Digital Media Week. Hillmon was one of just two players to be unanimously picked by both voting panels.
In addition, Michigan was picked to finish second in the conference by the media and fourth by the coaches after putting together a 22-12 record last season. Maryland was picked ahead of Michigan by the media, with the Terrapins, Michigan State and Indiana picked ahead of the Maize and Blue by the coaches.
Hillmon is coming off a stellar freshman season, leading Michigan last year in scoring (13.1 ppg), rebounding (7.0 rpg) and field goal percentage (.628). She was a consensus All-Big Ten first teamer, named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year by the media and the Big Ten Sixth Player of the Year by the coaches. Hillmon had 20 double-figure scoring games as a freshman, reaching the 20-point plateau eight times and recording eight double-doubles. She also won her second gold medal with USA Basketball this past summer, serving as captain of the U19 team that captured the title at the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
Michigan will host Northwood in a free exhibition contest on Oct. 30, before opening the regular season at Crisler against Western Michigan on Nov. 8. Both games are set for 7 p.m. starts.
