The No. 16-ranked University of Michigan women's soccer team will cap off the 2019 regular season this weekend at U-M Soccer Stadium when it plays host to No. 21 Rutgers (12-2-2, 6-2-1- Big Ten) on Thursday (Oct. 24) at 7 p.m. and Maryland (8-6-3, 4-4-1 Big Ten) on Sunday (Oct. 27) at 1 p.m. Both games will be streamed live on BTN Plus.
Series History with Rutgers
• The Wolverines trail the Scarlet Knights, 2-1-1, in the all-time series. Rutgers won the last meeting between the teams in 2017.
• Rutgers has played in Ann Arbor once, a 3-2 double-overtime Michigan win in 2016.
• Rutgers is one of just two Big Ten teams with an RPI higher than the Wolverines ranking of No. 28. The Scarlet Knights are 21st and Wisconsin is ninth.
Scouting the Scarlet Knights
• Rutgers is 12-2-2 overall and 6-2-1 in Big Ten play, good for a tie for fourth in the league standings.
• The Scarlet Knights are in the midst of a six-game unbeaten streak, with their last loss coming Sept. 28, when they fell, 2-1, to Maryland.
• Rutgers has played just five games away from home, is unbeaten on the road with 3-0-2 record as they head to Ann Arbor.
• Rutgers has scored 27 goals this season and given up just nine.
• Amirah Ali leads the offense with 19 points (eight goals, three assists), while Nneka Moneme has 17 points (eight goals, one assist). Britany LePlant also has reached double-digit points with 11 (three goals, five assists).
• In net, Meagan McClelland has made 51 saves on 60 shots on goal for a .850 save percentage and has allowed just nine goals.
Series History with Maryland
• The Maize and Blue has not lost to Maryland and holds a 4-0-0 advantage in the all-time series with the Terrapins.
• Michigan has faced Maryland at U-M Soccer Stadium in the last two meetings, earning a 2-1 in 2018 and won, 3-1, in 2016.
• The Terrapins have scored their only two goals of the series in Ann Arbor.
Scouting the Terrapins
• Maryland is 8-6-3 overall this season and 4-4-1 in conference play.
• The Terrapins have just one win away from home and are 1-3-1 overall on the road this season.
• Maryland has been outscored, 26-23, by it opponents and averages 14.5 shots per game.
• Alyssa Poarch has a team-best 18 points this season with eight goals and two assists, while Jlon Flippens leads the team with six assists.
• Also adding double-digit points is Mikayla Dayes, who has 11 points (five goals, one assist).
• Goalkeeper Erin Seppi has seen the most time in net with 14 starts. Seppi has given up 23 goals and made a team-best 26 saves for a .726 save percentage.
Looking Toward the Postseason
• Michigan (7-1-1) is tied atop the Big Ten standings with Wisconsin (7-0-1) at 22 points.Â
• Wisconsin has three games remaining on its regular-season schedule -- at Illinois (2-6-1 Big Ten) on Thursday (Oct. 24), at Northwestern (3-4-2) on Sunday (Oct. 27) and vs. Ohio State on Oct. 30 -- while Michigan has two, vs. No. 21 Rutgers on Thursday and Maryland on Sunday.
• Penn State sits third with 21 points and one match remaining in the regular season, Sunday vs. Nebraska (3-5-2).
• The Wolverines would host a Big Ten tournament quarterfinal game with a win or tie in either of its contests this weekend.
Wolverines Make Strides in 2019
• In just her second season at the helm of the Michigan program, head coach Jennifer Klein's already has made improvements as her squad secured it first season with double-digit wins since 2016.
• Michigan has scored 31 goals in 2019, topping its total of 30 from 2018.
• U-M is ranked No. 16 in the latest edition of the United Soccer Coaches Poll (Oct. 22). It is the third time this season the Wolverines have been ranked in the poll.
• The Wolverines have allowed 13 goals, halving the 26 they gave up at this point a year ago.
