COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The University of Michigan ice hockey team surrendered a two-goal advantage as No. 13-ranked Ohio State scored three straight goals to take the series opener, 3-2, on Friday night (Nov. 1) at Schottenstein Center.
The Wolverine power-play unit struck first as Nick Pastujov swiped in his third goal of the season with Eric Ciccolini and Michael Pastujov assisting. Michigan took advantage of a bounce off of netminder Tommy Napier and Pastujov pushed the puck over the line.
Emil Öhrwall put Michigan ahead, 2-0, with his first career goal at 9:49 of the second frame. Luke Morgan set up the play, skipping the puck down the right boards to himself and past two Buckeyes before collecting and sending a cross-ice pass to Ohrwall for the tally.
Ohio State's power play got the Buckeyes back in the game with two straight man-advantage goals before Austin Pooley gave OSU the lead at 3:52 of the third. The go-ahead goal came off a deflection in the slot after a shot from the top of the left circle.
Sophomore netminder Strauss Mann made 27 saves in goal, and Nappier stopped 20 on the other end for Ohio State.
Michigan will look to split the series Saturday night (Nov. 2). Puck drop is at 5 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on BTN Plus.
