ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan softball team and head coach Carol Hutchins announced today (Friday, Nov. 15) the Wolverines' 2020 schedule that features 53 regular-season games, including 19 at the Wilpon Complex, home of Alumni Field.
Michigan's 2020 slate features 17 opponents that reached the NCAA Tournament a year ago, including four teams from the 2019 NCAA Women's College World Series in NCAA champion UCLA, Florida, Minnesota and Washington.
Michigan will kick off the program's 43rd year of intercollegiate play at the annual Wilson-Demarini Tournament, scheduled for Feb. 7-9 in Tampa, Florida. Among their five-game slate at the annual USF tournament, the Wolverines will face perennial power Florida and host South Florida.
U-M will then travel to Chapel Hill, North Carolina, to take on North Carolina and Louisville two times apiece in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge (Feb. 14-16) before making its first appearance at the Gamecock Invitational (Feb. 21-23) in Columbia, South Carolina. Michigan will head to California for spring break with stops at the annual Judi Garman Classic (Feb. 28-March 1) in Fullerton and the Louisville Slugger Tournament (March 5-6) in Los Angeles. The Wolverines will again have a particularly tough stretch over spring break, facing NCAA Tournament teams in seven of 10 games, including Texas, Washington and UCLA.
U-M will host Ball State for a three-game series (March 14-15) at Alumni Field before opening Big Ten Conference play with a home series against Purdue the following weekend (March 20-22). The Wolverines will also host Big Ten matchups against Minnesota (April 3-5), Michigan State (April 15), Ohio State (April 17-19) and Maryland (April 24-26).
Hutchins, the winningest coach in NCAA softball history, is in her 36th season with the Wolverines. U-M returns 15 players from the 2019 squad that swept the Big Ten Conference regular-season and tournament titles. Team 43 also welcomes a talented six-member freshman class that combined for 15 All-America accolades and includes five nationally ranked prospects.
The Wolverines lost five starters to graduation but return four starting field players and a pair of starting pitchers, including junior LHP Meghan Beaubien, a 2018 NFCA first team All-American, and three NCAA All-Region honorees in sophomore leftfielder Lexie Blair, sophomore RHP Alex Storako and senior third baseman Madison Uden.
Renewals for current season-ticket holders will be made available in early January. Due to overwhelming demand, no new season tickets will be available this spring. Flex packs will go on sale Jan. 14, starting at $50, while group and individual-game tickets will be made available on Feb. 10.
