
York Scores First Goal, but U-M Falls to No. 13 Ohio State in Series Finale

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Freshman Cam York scored his first career goal, but Michigan fell, 2-1, at No. 13 Ohio State on Saturday evening (Nov. 2) at the Schottenstein Center.
York knotted the game at 1 with 3:58 remaining in the game with a wrap-around finish, beating Tommy Napier on glove side. Junior Dakota Raabe and sophomore Garrett Van Wyhe earned assists on the goal, their second of the season.
As the Wolverines (3-4-1, 0-2-0tried to use the momentum to steal the game in the waning minutes, a blocked shot at the blue line resulted in a breakaway opportunity for the Buckeyes. Netminder Strauss Mann cut off the angle on the initial shot by Grant Gabriele, but the rebound found its way to the trailer in Tate Singleton for the game-winner with 1:31 remaining.
"We're not here for moral victories," head coach Mel Pearson said. "We never will be when we are Michigan. It's a tough way to lose a game. I liked our start and a lot of good things happened in the game; unfortunately, we got a bad bounce. We didn't get many bounces this weekend."
Michigan outshot OSU, 13-7, in scoreless opening period. The Buckeyes (6-1-1, 2-0-0 Big Ten) closed the gap in shots thanks to three power-play chances in the second period.
OSU got on the scoreboard with a 5-on-3 goal at 10:15 of the middle frame. A lengthy review for potential offsides resulted in Michael Gildon's goal from inside the right circle being upheld to give the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead. Tanner Laczynski and Ronnie Hein were credited with the assists on the play.
Mann finished the game with 29 saves, while Nappier stopped 25 on the opposite end.
 "We've got to pick each other up and get ready for next weekend and Minnesota. We liked our compete near the end, and kept on battling," said Pearson. "We're going to win some hockey games; we just have to stick together and get back to work on Monday."
Michigan will return to Yost Ice Arena next weekend to host Minnesota. The Wolverines will face off against the Golden Gophers on Friday (Nov. 8) at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday (Nov. 9) at 5 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
