The University of Michigan ice hockey team (4-8-2, 0-5-1 Big Ten) looks to capture points in the Big Ten this weekend with a pair of games at Wisconsin (6-7-1, 1-4-1-1 Big Ten). The teams will battle it out on Saturday (Nov. 30) at 7 p.m. CST and on Sunday (Dec. 1) afternoon at 4 p.m. CST. Saturday's matchup will be streamed live on BTN Plus, while Sunday's game will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
The Series
Michigan and Wisconsin will meet for the 150th time in program history, with U-M holding a 75-61-13 record in the all-time series. The two teams first met in January 1923, as Michigan hosted Wisconsin for the first two varsity games in Wolverine program history. Michigan swept that series, 2-1 (2OT) and 1-0, and went on to split the series in Wisconsin the next weekend. The two teams last met March 1-2 in Madison, and Wisconsin won both games in overtime.
Scouting the Badgers
The Badgers enter the weekend series coming off an 0-1-1 weekend versus Minnesota. The Gophers took Friday's (Nov. 22) game 4-1, but the Badgers came out of Saturday's (Nov. 23) game with an extra point in the Big Ten standings in a 3-3 draw.
Wisconsin is led by freshman forward Cole Caufield, who leads the team with 16 points on nine goals and seven assists. His nine goals leads all rookies in the NCAA. Junior forward Linus Weissbach leads the team in assists with 12 and is second overall in points with 15.
In net, sophomore Daniel Lebedeff has played in 13 games, sporting a 3.45 goals-against average, an .889 save percentage and a 6-7 record. Senior Jack Berry has played in three games with a 3.15 GAA and a .896 save percentage.
Wolverine Bites
• Freshman Johnny Beecher collected his first multiple-goal game last Friday (Nov. 22) as Michigan halted a seven-game winless skid, handing UNH its first loss at home this season. Beecher's first goal also snapped a power-play skid that had reached 19 attempts without a goal -- as the Wolverines scored twice on the power play this past weekend.
• Senior Jake Slaker and junior Michael Pastujov recorded their first goals of the season at New Hampshire on Saturday in a 3-2 overtime loss.
• Michigan's penalty kill had a solid weekend, going 8-for-9 against a Wildcat power play that entered the weekend ranked seventh in the nation.
Strauss Mann ranks 12th in the country in save percentage at .926, stopping 338 of 365 shots faced. He has two shutouts to his credit this season and with a 2.15 GAA is ranked 22nd in the nation.
