
Four Wolverines Earn United Soccer Coaches All-North Region Honors

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Four University of Michigan women's soccer players were selected for the United Soccer Coaches All-North Region honors as announced Monday (Dec. 2).
Juniors Alia Martin and Sarah Stratigakis garnered first team honors, while Hillary Beall and Meredith Haakenson were named to the third team. Stratigakis was named to the second team in her sophomore season, while the honor marks the first for Beall, Haakenson and Martin.
Rutgers and Wisconsin led the Big Ten Conference with five honorees each, while Michigan and Penn State tied for third with four honorees.
Martin, who was a first team All-Big Ten honoree, moved to the backline in her junior season and started 21 matches at center back for the Maize and Blue. The Carmel, Indiana, native logged 1,842 minutes on the pitch this season and was a main factor in Michigan's six shutouts.
Stratigakis was named the Big Ten Midfielder of the Year after leading the conference with 12 assists in her junior season and tallying a team-high 26 points, including seven goals, which ranked second for U-M. The Woodbridge, Ontario, native scored three game-winners and had four contests with both a goal and an assist. The Wolverines were 13-0-0 in the 2019 campaign when Stratigakis recorded a point.
Beall, who was a third team All-Big Ten honoree, started all 24 matches between the pipes for the Wolverines, posting a .762 save percentage and allowing just 25 goals. The Laguna Beach, California, native made a career-high 80 saves in net in the 2019 season and posted six shutouts. Beall also helped the Wolverines to wins over four ranked opponents, including making a season-best 12 saves at then-No. 13 Washington State to help her earn Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week honors.
Haakenson, who was a second team All-Big Ten honoree, played in all 24 matches with 23 starts in her sophomore campaign, logging 1,641 minutes on the pitch. The sophomore midfielder led Michigan with nine goals and added two assists for 20 points. Haakenson tallied four game-winners for the Maize and Blue and scored a career-high two goals against Marshall to open the season.
