ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 24-ranked University of Michigan women's basketball team (7-1) continues a four-game homestand, welcoming Oakland (4-3) to Crisler Center on Sunday (Dec. 8) at 2 p.m.
• U-M and Oakland are meeting for the fourth straight season after not playing since the 2004-05 campaign. The Wolverines have won the last three games against the Grizzlies, including an 85-59 win in at Oakland last season.
• The Wolverines have just three non-conference contests remaining before turning their attention to Big Ten play. Michigan is 7-1 for the third time under eighth-year head coach Kim Barnes Arico, with U-M also winning seven of its first eight games in 2015-16 and 2016-17.
• Michigan turned up the heat defensively against Syracuse, forcing the Orange into 24 turnovers that led to 31 points. U-M recorded 15 steals, the most since matching that number against Southern last season (Dec. 21, 2018). Naz Hillmon and Akienreh Johnson each notched four steals on the evening, with Kayla Robbins (two) and Amy Dilk (three) also swiping more than one.
• Michigan is averaging 76.8 points per game on 45.9 percent shooting from the floor through eight games. U-M has had a different leading scorer in five of its eight games, with each player turning in a career high in scoring. Senior Kayla Robbins has led Michigan in scoring twice, the latter being a 23-point outburst against Syracuse (Dec. 5). Classmate Akienreh Johnson notched the first 20-point game of her career, going for 21 points in U-M's victory over Kent State (Nov. 15). Sophomore Naz Hillmon has led Michigan in scoring three times, highlighted by a career-best 28 points against Akron (Nov. 16). Freshman Izabel Varejão joined the party with the first double-figure scoring game of her career when she turned in 11 points at Eastern Michigan (Nov. 27). Freshman Michelle Sidor led U-M in scoring for the first time in a win over Morgan State (Dec. 1), going for a career-best 16 points.
• Oakland enters the contest with a 4-3 record on the heels of a two-game win streak. The Golden Grizzlies feature a pair of double-figure scorers in Jalisha Terry (13.6 ppg) and Chloe Guingrich (12.0 ppg, 8.3 rpg), with Kayla Luchenbach chipping in 9.7 points per contest.
