ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Just one last trip for select student-athletes to Notre Dame on Saturday (Feb. 16) for the Alex Wilson Invitational stands between the University of Michigan men's track and field team and the Big Ten Indoor Championships coming to Ann Arbor next weekend.
This Saturday's competition in South Bend, Indiana, will provide one final tune-up opportunity for some of Michigan's sprinters and distance runners.
A majority of Michigan's top competitors will not compete this weekend as they prepare themselves for the conference meet -- and all the national-level competition that comes with it -- coming to the state-of-the-art U-M Indoor Track Building on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 22-23.
Sprinters Ian Davis and Desmond Melson will kick off the day in the men's 400 at around 12:05 p.m.
Freshmen Evan Meyer and Austin Remick will take the track for the mile at 12:55 p.m., and the grouping of Dominic Dimambro, Christian Hubaker, Andrew Lorant and Joost Plaetinck will all run at 3,000 meters at 2:05Â p.m.

Wolverine Bites
• The Wolverines, led by head coaches Jerry Clayton and James Henry, are ranked No. 34 nationally in the fourth regular-season edition of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Track and Field Rating Index (TFRI).
• Michigan has built a reputation of being one of the best throws schools in the country, and is upholding it in 2019. The Wolverines are one of three teams in the country with men ranked top-10 nationally in both the shot put and weight throw. Joe Ellis is ranked No. 2 in the weight throw, with Andrew Liskowitz checking in at No. 9 in the shot put. Liskowitz is joined in the top-50 nationally by the freshman John Meyer at No. 32.
• Michigan's hurdle crew might be young -- no one older than a junior -- but it is one of the nation's best this season. Led by junior Roland Amarteifio at 7.91 and sophomore Sierra Hendrix-Williams at 7.97, the Wolverines' corps has four men who have run 8.11 or faster. They are joined by true freshman Job Mayhue (8.10) and sophomore Noah Caudy (8.11) to give Michigan a bright present and an even brighter future in the event.
• The 2018 recruiting class is making its debut this 2019 season and showing why it was one of the more acclaimed classes in the nation. Shot putter John Meyer is the top-ranked true freshman in the country in his signature event, Cassidy Henshaw is No. 12 in the high jump, Asani Hampton is No. 13 at 60 meters and Cole Johnson is ranked No. 20 in the mile. Three weeks ago, Meyer set the Michigan freshman record in the shot put at 18.74m (61 feet, 5.75 inches) and Hampton is just .02 of a second away from the freshman record in the 60 meters after this past weekend.
