Five members of the University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team will attempt to qualify for the NCAA Championships at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships, scheduled for Thursday through Saturday (March 14-16) at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center in West Lafayette, Indiana. The NCAA Championships will be held the following week (March 20-23) in Austin, Texas.
The divers heading to West Lafayette include sophomore Nikki Canale, sophomore Christy Cutshaw, freshman Allie Klein, sophomore Camryn McPherson and redshirt freshman Margaret Rogers. The women will do three-meter on Thursday (1 p.m.), one-meter on Friday (1 p.m.) and platform on Saturday (11 a.m.).
NCAA Championships Qualifying Procedures
The top five female divers from each event at their respective zone diving meet will be eligible to compete at the NCAA Championships. Additional place finishers in each event at each zone will be eligible based on the number of student-athletes from that zone who finished in the top 16 in that event at the previous year's NCAA Championships. All eligible divers must have achieved the zone qualifying score prior to the NCAA Championships in all events they wish to participate.
For the women, in total, Zone C is allotted nine spots on one-meter, eight spots on three-meter, and 12 spots on platform. Any diver that qualifies for the NCAA Championships will be allowed to optionally enter any other event(s) at the championships, provided that the diver finished in the top 12 at the same zone meet and has achieved the zone qualifying score for that event prior to the NCAA Championships.
