
Michigan Ready for Non-Conference Contest with Niagara

The No. 10-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team will take a short break from Big Ten Conference play for a non-conference contest against Niagara on Monday night (March 25). The Wolverines will look for their 12th win of the season when they welcome the Purple Eagles for a 5 p.m. first draw at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
Series History with Niagara
• Michigan carries a 3-0 advantage in the all-time series with Niagara in Ann Arbor for each meeting.
• In the last meeting between the two squads, Michigan took decisive 20-10 victory.
• The Wolverines have defeated Niagara by at least seven goals in all three meetings.
• Last time out against the Purple Eagles, Adriana Pendino recorded a hat trick, while Lilly Grass, Grace Hemmer, Chandler Kirby and Sydney Whitaker all scored a goal.
Scouting the Purple Eagles
• Niagara is 3-5 and will take on Monmouth on Saturday (March 23) in its first conference game before heading to Ann Arbor.
• The Purple Eagles and Wolverines have one common opponent in Ohio State. Niagra fell, 16-12, to the Buckeyes OSU 16-12 on March 3.
• As a team, Niagara averages 12.75 goals per game, scoring 102 goals this season and putting 185 shots on goal.
• Six Purple Eagles have tallied double-digit points with Rachel MacCheyne carrying a team-best 37 points with 33 goals and four assists.
• Caroline Crump also has amassed 20-plus points this year, as she has 26 with 18 goals and a team-best eight assists.
• Niagara has split time between goalies with Maren Geiger playing in all eight games and Michelle Messenger seeing time in seven.
• Geiger has made 70 saves, and has a .473 save percentage, while Messenger has made 26 saves for Niagara.

• The Wolverines are one of four undefeated teams in the nation, joining the company of No. 1 Boston, No. 2 Maryland and No. 8 Notre Dame.
• Michigan has doubled up its opponents this season, outscoring them 158-86 in 11 games.
• The Wolverines need just 24 goals over the final six regular-season games to tie a program-best 182 goals that were scored in 2017.
• Michigan earned its first appearance in the rankings in week two this season, coming in at No. 25 in the IWLCA Coaches Poll and moved up 15 spots to rank No. 10 in week six.
• Michigan holds the nation's longest win streak with 13 straight wins, dating back to last season.
• U-M ranks sixth nationally with six straight road wins and seventh nationally with seven straight home wins.
Garrett Added to Tewaarton Watch List
• Junior Molly Garrett is one of 10 players -- and one of three from the Big Ten -- that were added to the Tewaarton Award watch list on March 21.
• The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and female college lacrosse player in the United States. In the four games since the initial watch list was released (Feb. 28), Garrett has scored six of her 11 goals and has had 42 draw control victories in total this season.
• The list will be narrowed to 25 on April 25, and the five award finalists will be named on May 9.
• The winner will be announced May 30 in Washington, D.C.
• Michigan head coach Hannah Nielsen was a two-time Tewaarton Award winner (2008, '09) during her time at Northwestern.
