ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 13-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team set a program record with its eighth win of the season, defeating Kent State, 17-2, on Friday (March 8) at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
The eight wins top last year's total of seven, which came in the first season under head coach Hannah Nielsen.
Kent State scored the game's first and last goals, but in the 57:57 in between, the Wolverines outscored the Golden Flashes 17-0.
The 15-goal win is the largest margin of victory in school history, surpassing a 14-goal win over St. Mary's in 2015.
Senior Adriana Pendino led the team with four goals, her fourth game this season with three or more. Junior Nadine Stewart also had a hat trick, her third of the year, as U-M held a 43-9 advantage in shots taken for the contest.
Michigan's defense forced 25 turnovers and wreaked havoc on Kent State with the Golden Flashes failing on 10 of their 20 clear attempts. Sophomore Caroline Witkowski and junior Molly Garrett each caused three turnovers in the game.
Ten different players scored goals for the Wolverines. Freshman Caroline Cullinan scored her first collegiate goal in the first half, while seniors Maddie Klee and Megan Schulte each tallied their first of the season. Also, freshman Kelly Poole dished out the first two assists of her career.
The Wolverines will be at the U-M Lacrosse Stadium for their next contest, when they play host to No. 25 Towson on Sunday (March 10) at 1 p.m. [ Tickets ]
