
Wolverines Road Trip to Columbus to Race Ohio State, Rutgers

COLUMBUS, Ohio. -- The No. 5-ranked University of Michigan rowing team will face its first Big Ten foes of 2019 when it heads to Columbus, Ohio, for a Saturday (April 13) regatta against Ohio State and Rutgers. The programs will race 2,000 meters on the Scotio River in Columbus. Michigan State also will be present, racing against Ohio State and Rutgers.
All three Big Ten teams are ranked heading into this weekend. Michigan leads the way at No. 5, with Ohio State ranked No. 9 and Rutgers listed No. 16 in the latest CRCA/USRowing poll.
U-M will race the Buckeyes in the morning, and will race Rutgers in the afternoon session. The regatta will begin at 9 a.m., with the second session beginning at 1 p.m.
Michigan will travel two varsity eights, four varsity fours and two novice eights for competition.

Things to Know
• Michigan enters Saturday's races coming off consecutive Big Ten honors. The first varsity eight was named Big Ten Boat of the Week on April 2 and the first varsity four earned the same honor on April 9.
• U-M enters this week ranked No. 5 nationally in the latest edition of the CRCA/USRowing Coaches' Poll (April 10) after beginning the season ranked ninth. U-M has been a top-10 preseason team in four of the last five seasons.
• Ohio State enters the weekend ranked No. 9 in the poll, while Rutgers, listed in the polls for the first time in program history, is ranked 16th.
• Last weekend, OSU raced at Virginia's ACC-Big Ten Showdown. The Buckeyes went 9-6 overall.
• Rutgers' last time out on the water was for the Doc Hosea Invitational on March 30, when they bested ranked opponents then-No. 14 Syracuse and then-No. 15 Minnesota to win the regatta.
• Overall, the Big Ten has six teams ranked in the top 20 nationally: U-M at No. 5, Ohio State at No. 9, Wisconsin (No. 11), Iowa (No. 13), Rutgers (No. 16) and Indiana (No. 20).
