
Michigan Treks to Illinois for NCAA Championships

» Michigan will compete alongside No. 2 Stanford, No. 6 Minnesota, No. 7 Nebraska, No. 10 Navy, and No. 11 Cal in Session I of the NCAA Qualifier. The top three teams in each session will advance to the NCAA team finals.
» On floor exercise, 2019 Big Ten champion and 2018 NCAA runner-up Jacob Moore ranks No. 2 on the event and is tied for the top floor score in the country this season.

The No. 3-ranked University of Michigan men's gymnastics team travels to the 2019 NCAA Championships, hosted by Illinois on Friday-Saturday (April 19-20) at the State Farm Center in Champaign. U-M will compete in Session I of the qualifier on Friday (April 19) alongside No. 2 Stanford, No. 6 Minnesota, No. 7 Nebraska, No. 10 Navy and No. 11 Cal. The top three teams from each session will combine for a six-team final on Saturday (April 20), which will be broadcast live on Big Ten Network.
Wolverine Bites
• U-M ranks in the top five on five of six events, highlighted by a No. 2 ranking on vault with a four-score average of 71.900. Michigan also ranks third on floor exercise (69.925) fourth on still rings (69.263) and fifth on parallel bars (68.500) and high bar (66.738).
• A pair of seniors lead U-M on vault in No. 2-ranked Emyre Cole and No. 10-ranked Anthony McCallum. Cole ranks second in the country with a 14.813 average and high of 15.000, while McCallum -- the 2016 and 2017 NCAA vault champion -- owns a 14.550 and a high of 14.850.
• Sophomore Jacob Moore enters the meet fresh off a Big Ten title on floor exercise and ranks No. 2 in the NCAA on the event behind Oklahoma's Gage Dyer (14.900). Moore owns an average score of 14.650 and a season-high of 15.30 that is tied for the top mark in the country with Oklahoma's Yul Moldauer. Cole checks in at No. 7 with an average mark of 14.381 and a high score of 14.600.
• Sophomore Cameron Bock owns the second highest all-around score in the country this season with an 84.700 and ranks No. 3 with an 82.050 average. Bock is also No. 9 on pommel horse (14.013), 10th on still rings (14.150), fourth on parallel bars (14.475) and ninth on high bar (13.398).
• On other events, junior Mack Lasker ranks No. 6 on pommel horse with a 14.088 average. Senior Ryan Dunning is No. 11 on still rings with a 14.138 average score.
NCAA Championships History
• Michigan boasts six NCAA team titles -- three this decade (2010, 2013, 2014) -- 37 individual titles and 209 NCAA All-America citations.
• Last season, Jacob Moore tied for an NCAA runner-up finish on floor exercise with a 14.366, the highest finish for a Wolverine on the exercise since 1992, while Cameron Bock placed 10th in the all-around with a score of 81.032 and took a fifth-place finish on parallel bars (14.400) for his first All-America citation. Dunning scored a 13.900 on still rings for a third-place finish resulting in a trio of All-America citations for U-M, the most since 2016. Michigan placed fourth of six teams in Session I qualifying, scoring a 400.590 to end its team competition on the season.
• In 2017, McCallum repeated for back-to-back NCAA vault titles, while Cole took third on vault as both earned NCAA All-America honors. McCallum's 15.10 Tsukahara double pike helped him become the first back-to-back NCAA vault winner in school history and the sixth U-M gymnast to win back-to-back on any event. Cole placed third on vault with a 14.90 to earn the first All-America honor of his career. The last time an NCAA program had two All-American vaulters finish in the top three at NCAAs was Stanford in 2010.
• McCallum's win on the table made him the first back-to-back NCAA vault winner in school history, and the sixth U-M gymnast to win back-to-back titles on any event. There has been one three-time NCAA vault champion in the modern era of NCAA men's gymnastics, Nex Mexico's Chad Fox from 1987-89.

Session I Preview
• Session I includes No. 2 Stanford (418.025), No. 6 Minnesota (406.525), No. 7 Nebraska (404.638), as well as No. 10 Navy and No. 11 Cal.
Stanford
Stanford boasts the second-highest overall score in the NCAA this season (419.350). The Cardinal rank in the top two on four events, highlighted by No. 1 rankings on floor exercise (70.975) and parallel bars (70.725), and rank No. 2 on still rings (70.200) and high bar (68.863). U-M holds an advantage on vault, as the Cardinal rank No. 6 (71.200). Freshman Brody Malone (84.225) is the top all-arounder in the country and Grant Breckenridge is ranked fourth (81.538). Individually, Josiah Eng (14.513) and Blake Sun (14.475) rank third on still rings and parallel bars, respectively.
Minnesota
Coming off a fifth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships, the Golden Gophers rank No. 6 in National Qualifying Average (406.525), with a high score of 410.950. On individual events, Minnesota is No. 3 on vault (71.550) and parallel bars (69.238). Big Ten co-Gymnast of the Year Shane Wiskus ranks second in the country in the all-around (82.900), and is the Gophers' highest-ranked gymnast on any event, checking in at No. 2 on parallel bars (82.900).
Nebraska
The Cornhuskers are coming off a fourth-place finish at Big Tens and are ranked No. 7 with a 404.638 and a high score of 408.700. Nebraska's top events are vault and parallel bars, where it ranks fourth with a 71.538 on the table and a 68.675 on the bars. Big Ten co-Gymnast of the Year Anton Stephenson is their top gymnast, as he ranks No. 8 in the country in the all-around, and is the No. 1 vaulter in the country. Stephenson won the Big Ten title on the table, and boats an average of 14.875 with a season-high of 15.100.
