
Wolverines Travel to Northwestern for Final Big Ten Conference Contest

The No. 8-ranked University of Michigan women's lacrosse team (14-1, 4-1 Big Ten) hits the road for one final Big Ten Conference regular-season contest when it travels to Evanston, Illinois, to face No. 6 Northwestern on Thursday (April 18). First draw is set for 3 p.m. CDT at Martin Stadium, and the game will be broadcast live on ESPNU. The Wolverines will be looking for their first-ever win over the Wildcats.
Scouting Northwestern
• The Wolverines will have a tough test against the Wildcats as Northwestern leads the Big Ten in goals per game (18.5), assists per game (6.9), points per game (25.5), shots per game (35.5) and shot percentage (.522).
• The Wildcats are 9-4 overall this season and 3-1 in the Big Ten, with all four of their losses coming against top-10 programs including No. 1 Boston College, No. 2 Maryland and No. 3 North Carolina.
• Selena Lasota leads not only the Northwestern offense but also the Big Ten with 64 points, including a conference-best 4.17 goals per game, netting 50 this year.
• In net, Julie Krupnick has made 97 saves and owns all nine of the Wildcat wins with a .411 save percentage, while Mallory Weisse has seen time in seven games and has a .481 save percentage.
Nielsen Heads Back to Northwestern
• Michigan head coach Hannah Nielsen returns to familiar territory at Northwestern.
• Nielsen was a four-year starter for the Wildcats from 2006-09, winning four national championships.
• She also was a two-time Tewaaraton Award and Honda Sports Award winner in 2008 and 2009.
• Nielsen finished her career as Northwestern's all-time leader in points (398) and assists (224) and still owns those records.
• In her four years at Northwestern, Nielsen helped the Wildcats compile an impressive 85-3 overall record.
Michigan Claims First-Ever Undefeated Home Season
• With a 12-8 victory over Rutgers on Saturday (April 13), the Wolverines captured the program's first undefeated home season.
• Michigan went a perfect 9-0 at U-M Lacrosse Stadium, earning four wins over ranked opponents in Ann Arbor and outscoring their opponents 135-69 in home games.
• The Wolverines also scored 20 goals against Central Michigan on Feb. 15 to tie for third in program history for goals scored in a single home game.
Two Players Eclipse 40-Point Mark
• For the first time in Michigan women's lacrosse history, two players eclipsed the 40-point mark.
• Sophomore Caitlin Muir is tied for second all-time with her 44 points (27 goals, 17 assists) this year, notching eight multi-goal games and five multi-assist contests.
• Junior Lilly Grass has also reached the 40-point mark on the season with 43 (26 goals, 17 assists), tied for fifth all-time.
• Muir and Grass need one assist to break the Michigan season assist record. Muir needs four points and Grass five to tie the all-time season points record (48), which was set by Jess Angerman in 2015.
Looking Ahead to the Big Ten Tournament
• Michigan has earned its first appearance in the Big Ten Conference Tournament since the league went to a four-team format.
• With four wins in Big Ten play, Michigan has locked up at least the No. 3 seed in the tournament and can finish as high as the No. 2 seed with a win at Northwestern.
• The 2019 Big Ten Tournament will be hosted by Johns Hopkins and will begin with the semifinals on Friday, May 3. The championship game will be played Sunday, May 5.
Kane Extends Program-Best Goal Streak
• Sophomore Maggie Kane has been a major part of the Michigan offense in her sophomore season, ranking third with 32 points in 15 games.
• This year, Kane has scored 29 goals and has seven multi-goal games.
• Kane has scored in all 15 games this season and in 20 straight games, dating back to last season, for the Michigan record of consecutive games with a goal.
• Kane's goal streak dates back to April 3, 2018, with her goal against Notre Dame.
• The sophomore surpassed Anna Schueler's record of 16 games (Feb. 22, 2015-April 30, 2015).
