Rynda, Finn Lead Wolverines at Stanford
4/19/2019 11:59:00 PM | Women's Track & Field
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan women's track and field team kicked off its final road swing of the 2019 outdoor regular season at both Stanford and Virginia on Friday (April 19).
Led by the continued emergence of freshman Aurora Rynda and sophomore Chloe Foster, and the return of sixth-year graduate student Erin Finn, the Wolverines posted numerous times at Stanford that put them in contention to qualify for the NCAA postseason.
Friday's action at the Virginia Challenge was cut dramatically short by inclement weather, though a few Michigan women logged solid performances before the worst of the elements struck.
More information on both meets can be found below.

The Wolverine women kicked off their day with reigning Big Ten Track Athlete of the Week Chloe Foster winning her second consecutive 400-meter hurdles race with a victory in 59.69.
In the invitational section of the 800 meters, Foster's NCAA Indoor Championships distance medley relay teammate Aurora Rynda surged late in a tight field to take third place in 2:06.64. It marks the second time in as many races this spring that Rynda has dipped below 2:07.
The Wolverines. largest haul of potential NCAA East Preliminaries qualifying performances came in the invitational section of the 5,000-meter run. Led by Erin Finn's 16:09.94 for fifth place in her first competitive action in nearly a full year, six Michigan women went faster than the 16:34.22 that was the 48th and final time to qualify for the NCAA East Prelims in 2018.
Kathryn House ran a career-best 16:17.51 for ninth, followed closely by Big Ten Cross Country Freshman of the Year Anne Forsyth's 16:17.81 in 10th and cross country All-American Camille Davre's 16:21.81 in 11th in their respective 5,000-meter track debuts.
Jessi Larson was 14th in 16:32.32 -- though she has a faster time from earlier this year -- while Maddy Trevisan clocked an outdoor career-best 16:32.81.
They will have to wait until after the Big Ten Championships to see if those times hold up to be among the top-48 times in the NCAA East Region among athletes who declare to compete in that event.
Action will resume at Stanford for the Wolverine women on Saturday (April 20) at 5:30 p.m. PDT.
Full Michigan results can be found at the bottom of the article.
Virginia Challenge
Site: Charlottesville, Va. (Lannigan Field)
Event: Virginia Challenge (Day 1 of 2)
U-M Result: No team scoring
Next U-M Event: Saturday, April 20 -- Virginia Challenge - Day Two (Charlottesville, Va.), 10 a.m.
With the threat of inclement weather forcing the postponement of Friday's evening session of action at the Virginia Challenge, only a handful of women competed for the Wolverines on Friday (April 19) in the morning session.
Kayla Deering led the way for Michigan with a seventh-place finish in a highly competitive non-invitational hammer throw competition as she finished with a throw of 56.53m (185 feet, 5 inches).
Freshman pole vaulter Jessica Mercier got out to a quick start in her non-invitational competition, as she made her first two heights on first tries en route to a 3.72m (12-2.5) clearance to tie for fourth overall.
Competing in her first-ever heptathlon, Theresa Mayanja concluded the first of two days of competition in 11th place, propelled by a strong 14.30 (+1.5m/s) opener in the 100-meter hurdles.
With the postponement of Friday's evening session, Saturday has turned into a day-long affair beginning at 10 a.m. and concluding after 9 p.m.
