
Michigan to Host Jacksonville in First Round of NCAA Tournament

The University of Michigan women's lacrosse team earned its first-ever bid to the NCAA Tournament and secured the No. 8-overall seed. The Wolverines will host the first and second rounds of the tournament at U-M Lacrosse Stadium as they welcome Denver, Jacksonville and USC to Ann Arbor this weekend (May 10-12).
U-M will open the first round with a Friday (May 10) contest against Jacksonville at 4 p.m. before Denver and USC close out first round competition in the nightcap at 7 p.m. The winners of both contests will go onto the second-round game set for Sunday (May 12) at noon at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
Series History with Jacksonville
• Michigan and Jacksonville have met twice prior to this Friday's contest with the Dolphins coming away with both victories.
• Last season, Jacksonville notched a 14-9 victory over the Wolverines in the first meeting between the two programs since the 2014 campaign.
• U-M and Jacksonville have never met in the postseason.
Scouting the Dolphins
• Head coach Mindy McCord is in her 10th season with the Dolphins and holds a 141-53 overall record at Jacksonville, making the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in her career.
• The Dolphins earned their spot in the first round of the NCAA Tournament after defeating Mercer, 22-7, in the play-in game Tuesday night.
• The Dolphins are 17-3 overall this season and were 6-0 in conference play, winning the ASUN Tournament with a 20-18 victory over Liberty.
• Jacksonville has scored 369 goals this season and features two players who have surpassed 60 points.
• Jenny Kinsey and Hayley Ciklin lead the offense with 68 and 62 points, respectively. Kinsey has scored 49 goals this year and Ciklin has added 46, while Lillie Miller has found the back of the cage 45 times.
• On the draw, McKenna Rushford leads the team with 80 wins, while Megan Prescott has 60.
• In the cage, Dayna Martinetto has started all 20 games and brings a 9.43 goals-against average and a .433 save percentage to Ann Arbor this weekend.
Wolverine Bites
• Michigan earned its first-ever bid to the NCAA Tournament after going 15-3 overall on the season and defeating six ranked opponents.
• Under second-year head coach Hannah Nielsen, U-M has had the most successful season in program history, earning a program-best 15 wins, while scoring a program-high 239 goals in 18 games.
• The Wolverines also broke the single-game ground balls record with 30, while ranking second in fewest turnovers, third in goals and fourth in fewest goals allowed in a single game.
• U-M earned its first-ever undefeated home season, going 9-0 at U-M Lacrosse Stadium
Garrett Puts Up Big Numbers at Big Ten Tournament
• Junior Molly Garrett produced her best offensive game in her three seasons at Michigan at the Big Ten Tournament.
• Garrett scored a career-best six goals against the Wildcats in the semifinal of the tournament to lead the Wolverines.
• Her first four goals came in the first half, surpassing her previous career best of two goals in a game.
• Garrett netted six of Michigan's nine goals on the day and increased her season numbers by 25 percent as she now has 24 goals this season.
