ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's soccer program announced its 2019 schedule on Monday (June 17), which features 11 home matches at U-M Soccer Stadium. The Wolverines will open the season with a four-match homestand, which will begin Friday, Aug. 30 vs. Florida Gulf Coast.
Michigan will challenge itself with a difficult schedule, as it is set to face 10 teams in top-75 of the 2018 RPI rankings, including three College Cup participants -- all from the Big Ten -- during the regular season. The Wolverines have road matches against Indiana (Sunday, Oct. 13) and defending NCAA champion Maryland (Sunday, Nov. 3), in addition to hosting in-state rival Michigan State (Tuesday, Oct. 29) in the annual Battle for Big Bear. U-M also plays Akron, the fourth participant from last year's College Cup, in its final exhibition on Friday, Aug. 23.
Other notes from the schedule:
• U-M opens Big Ten play on Saturday, Sept. 21 vs. Rutgers.
• The Wolverines have four matches against in-state foes at U-M Soccer Stadium: Oakland (Tuesday, Sept. 17), Detroit Mercy (Wednesday, Oct. 9), Western Michigan (Thursday, Oct. 17) and Michigan State.
• They also will have a rematch with Notre Dame, set for Tuesday, Oct. 22 in South Bend, Indiana. The teams fought to a scoreless draw in the second round of last year's NCAA Tournament, with the Fighting Irish advancing in an 11-round penalty-kick shootout.
