NEW YORK, N.Y. -- University of Michigan head coach Erik Bakich announced Monday (July 15) that the Michigan baseball program will be competing in the second annual MLB4 collegiate baseball tournament to kick off the 2020 season.
The annual MLB4 tournament is described by Major League Baseball as a showcase event featuring some of the best programs in the nation to celebrate the traditional opening weekend of the college baseball season.
"We are thrilled to open the 2020 season in one of the nation's most elite tournaments against some of the best competition," said Bakich. "We sincerely appreciate the invitation from Major League Baseball, as well as our strong relationship between the people inside the collegiate and professional game."
Along with Michigan, the teams playing in the event include Vanderbilt, UConn, and Cal Poly. Michigan and Vanderbilt most recently met during the 2019 season in the College World Series Finals, with the Commodores taking home the national title.
The MLB4 tournament is scheduled to be played from Feb. 14-16, 2020, at Salt River Fields at Talking Stick in Scottsdale, Arizona, the spring training home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies. Teams will play three games during the tournament, with additional schedule and broadcast details to be announced at a later date.
