Michigan Sweeps Navy at Crisler

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The No. 24-ranked University of Michigan volleyball team earned a three-set sweep (25-22, 25-22, 25-21) against Navy on Friday (Sept. 13) in the first of seven games to be played at Crisler Center this season.
The Wolverines offense was paced by sophomore Paige Jones, who finished with 12 kills on a .345 attack percentage, and by freshman Jess Robinson, who had 11 while hitting at a .588 clip. U-M got nine digs from senior Sydney Wetterstrom and 35 assists from senior MacKenzi Welsh.
The Wolverines took set one, 25-22, powered by a .414 attack percentage with 16 kills in the victory. After the lead changed hands five times, the Wolverines took control for good at 19-18 and rode that advantage to victory.
Michigan won set two, 25-22, to quickly take a 2-0 lead in the match. The Wolverines scored first and never trailed in the set to secure the victory. Michigan led by as many as five in the frame. U-M's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking five Navy attacks in the stanza.
Michigan took the third set, 25-21, to sweep the match led by a strong performance on the attacking end. Michigan put together a .361 attack percentage with 16 kills in the set victory. The Wolverines opened up a 21-14 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there.
Michigan will be back in action on Sunday (Sept. 15), when it hosts Eastern Michigan at 1 p.m. in Crisler Center. Tickets and hot dogs are $1 as part of Dollar Day.
