ORLANDO, Fla. -- The University of Michigan dance team placed a trio of routines in the top seven at the UDA College Dance Team Nationals from Friday-Sunday (Jan. 17-19)Â at the Disney Wide World of Sports Complex.
On Friday (Jan. 17), U-M competed in the Game Day category for the first time in program history and earned a sixth-place finish.
On Saturday (Jan. 18), U-M qualified for the Jazz and Hip-Hop finals. The Wolverines qualified fifth in the Jazz category before placing seventh in finals on Sunday (Jan. 19).
U-M also qualified Saturday for the Hip-Hop finals for the first time in seven seasons. After qualifying seventh, U-M finished seventh Sunday in the finals.
"We are incredibly proud that all three of our routines placed in the top seven," said Michigan head coach Valerie Stead Potsos. "There were only four other teams in the entire competition to accomplish that feat, and we were lucky enough to be in that category. We are so incredibly proud of all the hard work the team has put in these past few months."
Michigan entered the weekend after an intense stretch of training over the last few months and held a highly-successful "Friends and Family" event in front of more than 1,000 people on Jan. 12 inside Cliff Keen Arena.
With the team's competitive season now complete, the Wolverines will focus on supporting the U-M athletic department and athletic events.
