
Top-Ranked Wolverines to Face Michigan State in Home Finale

The No. 1-ranked University of Michigan women's swimming and diving team (5-0, 3-0 Big Ten) will cap off the dual-meet portion of its schedule on Friday (Jan. 31), hosting in-state opponent Michigan State (6-5-1, 0-3-1 Big Ten) at Canham Natatorium. The meet will begin at 5 p.m. Admission is free. The first 250 fans in attendance will receive a free Michigan swimming and diving insulated cup.
Prior to the meet, U-M will honor its five-member senior class of Jackie DeLoof (Grosse Pointe, Mich.), Chloe Hicks (Mason, Ohio), Vanessa Krause (Chesterton, Ind.), Jacqui Schafer (Sydney, Australia) and Miranda Tucker (Livonia, Mich.).

Team Notes
• The Wolverines jumped to No. 1 -- up four spots from No. 5 -- in the latest CSCAA/TYR Top 25 poll, released on Jan. 22. [ Rankings ]
• Since the start of the 2015-16 season, U-M is 36-2 in dual meets and has won its last 27 duals. A win over Michigan State on Friday would give Michigan its third consecutive unbeaten season.
• Sophomore Maggie MacNeil was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week for the third time this season on Wednesday (Jan. 22) after winning three events in three different strokes in the team's 165-135 dual meet at Ohio State on Jan. 18.
• Three swimmers have Big Ten-best times at this point in the season: sophomore Maggie MacNeil (50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, 100-yard butterfly), junior Sierra Schmidt (1,000-yard freestyle, 1,650-yard freestyle) and senior Miranda Tucker (100-yard breaststroke, 200-yard breaststroke). The Wolverines also have conference-leading times in all five relays.
• The Wolverines have a deep diving group heading into the postseason, as seven of the team's eight divers have accumulated at least one NCAA Zone Diving qualifying score. Junior Christy Cutshaw and freshman Lucy Hogan have received scores on all three events. [ Diving Bests ]
Opponent Preview
MICHIGAN STATE is 6-5-1 on the season, including a 0-3-1 record against Big Ten opponents. The Spartans have losses to Iowa (183-113), Northwestern (171-129) and Purdue (187.5-107.5), with a tie against Illinois (150-150). Michigan State is coming off a 216-78 win over Cleveland State last Friday (Jan. 24). Erin Szara has an NCAA 'B' cut in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Series: Michigan is 42-2 all-time against Michigan State. The Wolverines have won 33 consecutive meetings with the Spartans.
